What Effects Global Warming has on Antarctica
By Bianca Keating
What is Global Warming?
Global Warming is when the temperature of the Earth gets hotter and starts to melt ice. Humans only contribute around 2% of the total cause of Global Warming, the rest is natural causes. Global warming is caused by burning fuels like coal and oil.
Green House Effect
The Green House Effect is caused by Global warming. Global Warming effects Antarctica by melting the ice in Antarctica 90% of the world’s ice is in Antarctica. It could effect us because when Antarctica’s ice melts it causes the sea level to rise.
The Effects
• There has been a lot more rain falling from the sky in North and South America, Europe, Central Asia and maybe more countries, which means that there is a lot more floods.
• Scientists think that different types of plants and animals are moving towards the pole where there were no plants before.
• Longer droughts which means no more crops.
• Cold days and cold nights but no frost.
The effects in the future
Since the 1950’s Antarctica has warmed up by 2.5°c (4.5°F). Global Warming will result in fewer icebergs in Antarctica. At this rate, in the future there will be more storms, more rainfall, and there will also be longer droughts.
What are people doing to help Global warming?
Scientists regularly see how quickly Antarctica’s ice is melting. Some people in the world have stopped using trucks, cars, buses, or motorbikes, and just started using bikes or their own feet. We always can do more to help with Global Warming because one day it could be the last of the Earth!
What has happened to Global Warming on Antarctica?
Recently the warming in Antarctica has increased. Ice has been decreasing. Some parts of Antarctica have been splitting into separate areas. The ocean has been warming. The ice is not as thick in Antarctica as it was years ago.
So what are you going to do to help with Global Warming?
